Mercy Rule

Monday, August 21st, 2006

U7 & U8 House Will abide by the following mercy rule:
When a team is leading by 4 goals, the trailing team may add a player.
When trailing by 5 goals, they may add a second player and when trailing
by 6 goals they may add a third player.  After a third player has been
added, no more players shall be added.  If the trailing team then scores
a goal, they shall then remove a player to keep the ratio of players in
line with the above policy.
U9 and above House & Travel Rec Shall follow WSSL rules which are as follows:
When the goal differential becomes 5, the team leading will remove one
player until they reach the minimum number of players for that age group
(Law 8 ).  Whenever the losing team scores a goal and reduces the goal
differential, the leading team can add a player back onto the field but
not to exceed the maximum number of players allowed should the
differential become 4 or less.
Coaches & Referees The 2 rules above are very different from each other and can be
confusing.  Please be sure to follow the correct rule for the age group
you are coaching or refereeing.  Remember, the WSSL rule is for
recreation games only, not Select games.
